Legend has it that ancient tribal mothers carried their babies in pieces of special fabrics they made themselves with their looms. These fabrics had "magical" powers that protected the children from bad spirits. The tribal mothers, who faithfully believed the legend, would carefully weave the kikuyus while they awaited the birth of their children... the colors of the fabric were chosen depending on various factors, the time of year they would give birth, the fertility of the land at that time, and the God they would call on to protect their babies...
But these are legends... apart from their religious beliefs, the tribal mothers carried their children in kikuyus because it kept their hands free and allowed them to go about their daily chores while safely and securely holding their babies close to them, protecting them with a cotton cloth.
Today, you can use a kikuyu in any situation, To run errands, take a walk on the beach, to go shopping... or simply to feel and enjoy having your baby close to you...
